Elwin Dean Marquardson

1932  -  2009

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Elwin Dean Marquardson, 77, passed away October 28, 2009 in Cedar City, Utah. He was born on September 19, 1932 in Elsinore, Utah to Erastus Frederick and Jennie Mae Harris Marquardson. He graduated from Beaver High School and proudly answered the call of the country he so dearly loved, serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal in the 213th Service Battery.

He married the love of his life, Carole Dee Walker on New Year’s Eve, 1955 in Milford, Utah and together they were blessed with four wonderful children. Elwin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and many years assisting the scouting program.

He worked as a mink ranch manager in Crescent, Utah, at Western General Daries and drove truck for Davis and Consolidated Freight and later retired, enjoying gardening and camping with his family and spending time outdoors. He loved the outdoors and the mountains, where he spent many hours hunting, fishing, camping, and going rock and fossil hunting with his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. Elwin was a honest man and a private person, who loved his family and his country. He had a sense of humor that was uniquely his own and known as quite a character to those close to him. He will be dearly missed.

He was a member of the Southern Utah Horseshoe Pitching Association, where he made many friends. He pitched in tournaments around the state, leagues and the Utah Summer Games, wining many trophies and awards.

He is survived by his wife, Carole of Cedar City and his children Laurie Ann (Paul) Harvey of Gilbert, Arizona and Bradley Dean, Dale Elwin and Darrin Dee of Cedar City, Utah. Also his grandchildren Corey Baumgartner, Dustin Hustead, Loren Plunk, Erin Plunk, Devon Marquardson, Kaleb Marquardson, one step-grandson, Matt Harvey and two step grandchildren, all of whom he adored.

We are certain a joyous reunion is taking place as Elwin is now reunited and preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David, George and Ward and his sisters Violet, Norma, Jean, Lola and Myrll.

Funeral services will be held on Monday Nov. 2, 2009 at 11:00 at the Enoch Stake Center in Enoch, Utah. Visitations will be held on Sunday Nov. 1, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. and again prior to services on Monday, November 2, 2009 from 9:30-10:30, both at the Enoch Stake Center. Interment will be in the Enoch City Cemetery, all under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Bruce Hendrix, Bishop Dan Roberts, and all friends and family for their love and support.
