Erba Gloria Whatcott Gardner obituary - Obituary provided by UtahTributes

Erba Gloria Whatcott Gardner

1923  -  2008

A loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died August 17, 2008 due to complications of age.

Gloria was born January 11, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Erba Jenkins and Charles Dewey Whatcott. She married her sweetheart, Don C. Gardner June 26, 1942; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. In Gloria’s eyes her greatest achievement was her close and loving family. She is survived by her children: Sandie (Dee) Johnson, Rick (Sharon) Gardner, David (Celia) Gardner and Vern (Cheryl) Gardner; 14 adoring grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mom was truly a free spirit with a sense of humor that lit up a room. She was known for her line dancing, singing and love of music. Another of Gloria’s most anticipated activities was traveling with her dear friends, dancing with the “Young at Heart” line dancers, and she was always in the mood for a trip!

Adventure, laughter and fun made Gloria a character everyone loved to be near. Singing around the campfire, playing games, fishing and just constant humor are vivid memories of Grandma. There was no knitting or rocking chair for this grandma, just waterfalls to climb, waterslides to ride, and special memories to make. Mom is so dearly loved, we will forever miss her and are so thankful for the happiness and fun she brought to each person who has known and loved her.

There is no place that Gloria would rather be than back in the arms of her sweetheart, Don, and we know they are together again. While we will miss her terribly, our memories will sustain us until we are all together again. We love you dearly, Mom.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 12:00 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where a viewing will be held Wednesday, 11-11:45 am. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
