Harold Spencer Falslev, 79, Grandpa, Dad, and devoted Husband, passed away Friday, August 15, 2008 at Sunshine Terrace while recovering from brain surgery.

Spence was born June 8, 1929, to Marinus and Marjorie Francis Falslev. He was raised in Logan and was a proud graduate of Logan High School. After high school he joined the Navy and traveled to many parts of the world. He then returned to Logan and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1955 with his Education Degree. He married Robena Parker on Aug. 25, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have four children and nine grandchildren. Spence taught at Wellsville Elementary School and South Cache Jr. High School. He retired in 1983, after teaching thousands of students about the world they live in through history, geography, and political science classes. Along with teaching, he was also a professional photographer and owner of Spence Studio. For more than 50 years he and his wife photographed thousands of babies, dance groups, families, weddings, and outdoor photographs of Cache Valley.

Spence was a man of many interests. He kept an impeccable yard and grew the best cantaloupe, raspberries, and tomatoes around. He loved to travel and learn of other cultures enjoying many wonderful trips with his wife. He had a dry wit about him and he loved a good joke.

Spence was a man of great determination. He would set his goal and then systematically go about doing the things he needed to do to achieve it. Spence adored his grandchildren. He was happiest when watching them play sports, attending their piano recitals, listening to them talk about their outdoor adventures, or having them work with him in his yard. His grandkids will very much miss their “Grandpa Tickles.” Spence was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, fulfilling many callings throughout his life. He especially enjoyed working in the Logan LDS Temple Baptistery for many years with Mom. His sweetheart of 53 years passed away one year and three months ago and he has so missed her. Now they are together again.

He is survived by four children Dave (KayeDawn) Falslev of Smithfield, Bena (Kent) Reid of Canton, Conn., Kathleen (Todd) Cottle of Logan, and Robert Falslev of California; and nine grandchildren, Vanessa, Tasha, Tyson, J.D. Kassi, Kolter, Christopher, Austin, and Cameron. Also surviving are his older sister Barbara Douglas of Payette, Idaho; Brother and Sisters-in-Law Bob (Maxine) Parker of Centerville, Utah, and Luella Parker of Hooper, Utah. He was preceded in death by his sweet wife, Robena Parker, his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Genevieve Francis, Brother-in-law H. Lisle Parker, and his parents.

The family would like to thank the many friends and neighbors for all of their help over these past few years. We would also like to thank the staff at Sunshine Terrace Rehabilitation for the kind care they gave Dad.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 23 at the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East with Bishop Lige Palmer conducting. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to services at the church.
