Sharon Jarvis Martin
Salina
1917 - 2008
Sharon Jarvis Martin, 90, of Salina, Utah, passed away August 15, 2008, in Richfield. He was born November 30, 1917, in Salina, Utah, to Jarvis and Millie Atkin Martin.
His mother died when he was just 17 days old, so his maternal grandparents, Ellen and T. H. Atkin raised him, his father passed away when he was 11 years old. In 1941, he enlisted in the US Army and worked in building the Alcan Highway. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during the entire war.
After his release in 1945, Sharon returned to Salina and once again took up farming and the egg business. He had at one time over 2,000 laying hens. He also worked for Perfect Pleat Company in Aurora for many years.
Sharon was a person who was always ready to give assistance and care to any of his family and acquaintances. He was quite a character and was quick witted. He had never married and when asked why he had two responses: “I loved all women and could never decide to limit myself to just one”; and the other response, “I was never able to run fast enough to catch one”. When asked about his longevity, his response was “Maybe it’s all the good whiskey I drank....it probably pickled my stomach.”
He is survived by two brothers, Andrew (Christin) Anderson, Stephen (Mernie) Martin; cousins: Carolyn Lane, Jill (Steven) Nielson, Bill Gardner; nieces and nephews: Michael Martin, Stephanie Martin, Patty Dougherty, Charles Martin, Linda Tolman, Linden Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Eric Graham, Anderia Miller, Terry Kardos.
