Nedra Jackson Spackman obituary - Obituary provided by UtahTributes

Nedra Jackson Spackman

Richmond

1920  -  2008

Nedra Jackson Spackman, 88, completed her journey here upon this earth on August 13, 2008. She is now in the presence of her Father in Heaven's love. We are assured she was welcomed into the opened arms of her eternal companion, Keith, her family and friends.

Nedra was born April 28, 1920 in Lewiston, Utah to Marriner Wells and Julia Leavitt Jackson. She grew up in Lewiston, Utah. She married Keith Arvid Spackman on December 21, 1937 in t he Logan LDS Temple. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 21, 1997. They had been married 62 years when Dad passed away June 30, 2000.

During their married life they lived and operated dairy farms in North Logan and Amalga. They built their home in Richmond where they both lived for the remainder of their lives.

Nedra was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a quiet, but strong testimony of the gospel. She loved to serve in various positions in the church and especially enjoyed the Primary where she gave and received much love from the children. She taught disaster preparedness in many of the Smithfield Wards and was Visiting Teacher and supervisor for many years in Richmond. She quietly developed and accomplished her own talents and skills that enriched the lives of many.

Nedra was always a caring and loving homemaker. She admired the simpler things of life and made time to recognize and give thanks for the Lord's hands in all her gifts. She loved her home and her yard. Many hours were spent admiring the beauty that surrounded her. The creatures, both big and small, that passed through provided hours of wonder, laughter and contentment. She became an avid gardener spending much time with her husband beautifying their home and yard until her health no longer permitted her to do so.

She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes from homemade patterns. She tatted, crocheted, knitted, did needlepoint, tied and hand quilted quilts.

One of her greatest joys was working at the Logan Regional Hospital, first as a volunteer "Pink Lady" and then in 1964 became employed as a Physical Therapy Aide. She retired in 1985.

Next to her own children she was proud of her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them more than they could understand. They were always in her prayers.

She is survived by one son, Marvin (Ann) Spackman, Fielding and one daughter, Julee Spackman, Richmond; seven grandchildren and their spouses; Wendy Olsen, Cory (Cindy) Spackman, St. George; Geri Ann (Mike) Olsen, Fielding; Julie (Ken) Oxborrow, Garland; Camilla (Curtis) Williams, Kaysville; Melanie (Scott) Bertolio, Stansbury Park; Trisha (Josh) Grover, Nibley; and a special foster granddaughter, Chris (Scott) White, Weston, ID. She has 33 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Vada Spackman, Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandson-in-law (Boyd); brothers: G. Wells (Jodie) and Donald (Amy); sisters: Erma (Charles), Leona (Bob) and Nelda (LaMont); her husband's parents and brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Richmond 4th Ward Chapel, 150 South 100 East, with Bishop Crafts conducting. Friends and family may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Monday morning at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Richmond City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
